DR. BOBBY JONES is an American gospel music singer, Grammy-winning recording artist, television host, producer, author, educator, and cultural pioneer whose career has shaped the way gospel music is experienced across the United States. He is best known as the creator, host, and executive producer of Bobby Jones Gospel, which premiered on BET in 1980 and became the longest-running original series on cable television, showcasing gospel artists and performances for more than 35 years. Dr. Jones holds a Bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University, an Ed.D. from Vanderbilt University, and a Th.D. from Payne’s Theological Seminary, reflecting his deep commitment to education and leadership. He has released more than a dozen albums, led the Nashville Super Choir, and co-created the first Black gospel opera, Make a Joyful Noise, which won a Gabriel Award. His work introduced countless gospel artists — including Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Mary Mary, Hezekiah Walker, and many others — to national audiences, helping launch their careers. In addition to Grammy, Dove, and Stellar Awards, Jones has received over 1,500 honors, has been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, earned a star on the Music City Walk of Fame, and in 2025 was honored with a Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award.
