MR. LEE WILLIAMS and Dr. Keshia Gaines- Black History Month


LEE WILLIAMS (1946–2021) was an American gospel singer, songwriter, and philanthropist, best known as the founder and lead vocalist of the quartet Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC’s. He was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and his deep baritone and heartfelt delivery made him a beloved figure in traditional gospel music for over five decades.  Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC’s first gained national attention with their 1996 album "Jesus Is Alive and Well," featuring the hit “I’ve Learned to Lean,” and went on to record many albums. Over his career he and the group received numerous honors, including Stellar Awards, a Soul Train Award for Best Gospel Album, and in 2010 the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing his impact on gospel music. He also earned an honorary doctorate in sacred music and local distinctions such as the Key to the City of Tupelo. His legacy endures in the influence he had on gospel quartet singing and the many artists he inspired. Lee Williams was a national influencer because of his chart-topping recordings, award-winning career, and emotionally powerful quartet style that inspired audiences and artists across the United States.
